Arbor Day Celebration at Burlington Park!

11/4/2025

Mrs. Boden’s 4th Grade class joined the City of Lyons to celebrate Arbor Day by planting a Mockernut Hickory tree at Burlington Park!
Special thanks to Graham Herbst, Community Forester for Eastern Nebraska with the Nebraska Forest Service, for teaching the students about the importance of trees and demonstrating how to properly plant one. Graham even brought samples of the Emerald Ash Borer, helping students see firsthand how the pest affects trees.
Students explored the park, discovered seeds (many took some home to try growing their own), and impressed Mrs. Boden with how much they’ve learned in science class — correctly answering questions about the vascular system, tap roots, and seed dispersal.
It was a wonderful day celebrating learning, nature, and the future of our community’s trees!
It’s never the wrong time to celebrate Arbor Day!
While the last Friday in April is the nationally recognized Arbor Day, any day is a great day to plant a tree, learn about conservation, and support the spirit of Arbor Day.
