Public Notice from the Lyons Water Department

3/9/2026

The Lyons Water Department would like to encourage residents to take a moment to review the water usage listed on their monthly utility bill.
Recently, we have noticed an increase in higher-than-normal water usage for some households. In many cases, the cause is a leaking or running toilet, which can waste a surprising amount of water without being easily noticed.
If you see a sudden increase in your water usage, it is a good idea to check for common issues such as:
  • A toilet that continues running after flushing
  • A silent toilet leak (water slowly leaking from the tank into the bowl)
  • Dripping faucets or other plumbing leaks
Nine times out of ten, a running toilet is the culprit. These issues are often inexpensive and simple to repair, but if left unattended, they can significantly increase your water bill.
Please remember: if water is passing through the meter, it is going somewhere within the home or property.
Taking a few minutes to check your plumbing fixtures could help prevent unnecessary water waste and higher utility costs.
If you have questions about your water usage, please contact the Utility Department.
Thank you for helping conserve water and keep costs down for everyone.
